Swift awarded Best Affordable Hybrid by Best Cars of the Year

August 15, 2024

Just three months after its launch, the new hybrid Swift has earned the title of Best Affordable Hybrid 2024-2025 from Best Cars of The Year, a recognition Suzuki is proud to announce. The judging panel named the new Swift the clear winner in its category due to its standard hybrid technology across the range, impressive fuel efficiency of 64.2 mpg, and most notably, its affordability, with a price well below £20,000.

Mike Rutherford of Best Cars of The Year praised Suzuki, saying: “Suzuki has to be applauded for making every model available as a hybrid – at a time when consumers are increasingly attracted to this affordable, highly flexible petrol-electric tech. Throw impressive Japanese build quality, a great dealer network and a sub-£20,000 starting price into the mix and it’s no wonder the little Swift appealed to our judges. It’s a car for the real-world.”

With over 3,700 customer orders already placed, the new Swift’s popularity highlights Suzuki’s success in offering vehicles that combine low ownership costs, essential technology, and standard hybrid features. For those needing additional traction in winter or rural areas, the Swift is also available with an optional CVT gearbox and ALLGRIP Auto 4-wheel drive technology. The new Swift will be showcased alongside other category winners and the overall Best Car of The Year at the British Motor Show, held at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre from Thursday, August 15th, to Sunday, August 18th.

Strong Residual Values:

When buying a new car, considering its future value is crucial, and the new Swift Motion with CVT is projected to hold a strong residual value of 52%, according to industry experts CAP HPI. This translates to a retained value of £10,200 after four years and 40,000 miles (CAP Forecast May 2024). The manual transmission version of the Swift Motion follows closely with a 49% retention rate, or £8,975 over the same period.

Suzuki customers benefit from low ownership costs, further enhanced by an extended warranty of up to seven years. This complimentary warranty kicks in after the standard three-year manufacturer warranty ends, provided the vehicle undergoes its next scheduled service at a Suzuki dealership. The warranty is renewed with each qualifying service, lasting up to seven years or 100,000 miles—whichever comes first.

Suzuki S-Cross now available as full hybrid

September 22, 2022

The Suzuki S-Cross is now available with full hybrid technology that helps lower CO2 emissions and improves fuel consumption even further than the current mild hybrid with automatic transmission.

Full hybrid technology

The system consists of a 140V lithium-ion battery and inverter, Motor Generator Unit (MGU), a 12V lithium-ion battery and a conventional 12V lead-acid battery to power components requiring lower voltage such as lights, instruments, heating and air-conditioning.

Selectable hybrid modes

The new hybrid system has two switchable modes – Eco and Standard – which enables the driver to change between the two modes depending on conditions and increases the frequency of EV driving.

MGU

The MGU acts as a generator and starter motor and assists the petrol engine during vehicle take off. The high-performance lithium-ion battery stores electrical energy recovered from deceleration and braking and incorporates an idle stop function operated via the integrated starter generator. Based on engine speed and throttle position, the engine ECU judges when the driver will accelerate then uses the electric motor to add additional torque.

The hybrid system collects kinetic energy and generates electricity by stopping the engine and disengaging the clutch during deceleration, which increases the EV driving range. As a full hybrid, the S-Cross can run solely on its electric motor for short distances.

Transmission

The S-Cross full hybrid comes equipped with Auto Gear Shift (AGS) that automatically shifts the manual transmission and gear ratios to help provide a good combination of performance and fuel economy. AGS enables the driver to enjoy both the direct driving experience of a manual gearbox and the shifting ease of an automatic transmission. The transmission also has a manual mode with steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles.

One notable feature of the latest hybrid system with AGS is the position of the MGU on the output side of the transmission assembly. As a result, power from the MGU is directly transmitted to the driveshafts to fill the torque gap during shifting and provides a smoother transition from the transmission.

CO2 emissions

Thanks to full hybrid technology, high tensile steel and other weight-saving measures in the body, S-Cross CO2 emissions are low (118g/km) with an impressive combined fuel economy of 53mpg.

ALLGRIP 4-wheel drive

Suzuki’s ALLGRIP 4-wheel drive system is available as an option on the Ultra model and incorporates four selectable drive modes – Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock – for safe, enjoyable driving on diverse surfaces.

Specification highlights

Standard equipment is comprehensive with the entry-level Motion model featuring: dual-zone auto air conditioning, heated front seats, keyless entry and start, 17″ silver alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, rear parking camera and a “7 inch touchscreen display. Moving up to the top-spec Ultra you get a larger 9″ diplay, 17” polished alloy wheels, 360 view camera, panoramic sunroof, leather seats and the availability of ALLGRIP 4WD as an option.

A high level of safety specification comes as standard including, LED headlights and rear combination lights, dual sensor brake support (AEB), lane departure warning and prevention, traffic sign recognition, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitor and eCall.

Suzuki Connect App

Suzuki Connect

Initially available in S-Cross, Suzuki Connect enables owners to use convenient connected services via the smartphone app, including notifications about the vehicle status in retail time, remotely lock the car, view driving information and the location of their parked vehicle. Diagnostic information can be seamlessly shared with the dealership, allowing for faster and more comprehensive aftersales support.
