Suzuki Ignis wins ‘Best Buy’ & ‘True MPG’ accolades at 2021 What Car? Awards

January 13, 2021
  • Best Small SUV for Value
  • Best True MPG on Rural roads and Motorways – 74.8mpg

Following its success last year, the Suzuki Ignis Hybrid compact SUV has again been awarded a ‘Best Buy’ at the 2021 What Car? Awards held online on 12th January. Ignis was comprehensively judged by the editorial team and announced as the best value overall small SUV model.

The Ignis 1.2 Dualjet Hybrid 2WD was also awarded another ‘True Mpg’ What Car? accolade and remains the most economical car tested by the team. Ignis has previously won the long etablished magazine’s ‘True Mpg’ award in 2019 and 2020.

Readers of What Car? regularly ask the team to assist with advice on their next new car and in the case of needing something small, cheap to buy and run and also easy to drive, Ignis is very high on the list and adds further choice too with the optional availability of its Allgrip ‘Auto’ 4×4 system.

Commenting at the awards, Steve Huntingford, Editor of What Car? said: If you want a high driving position in a car with tiny, city-friendly proportions and rock-bottom costs, nothing does it quite like the Ignis. And it continues to make sense when you leave the town behind, because it’s the most economical car we’ve ever tested for driving on rural roads and motorways, managing 74.8mpg and 53.3mpg respectively in our real-world True MPG tests.”

Suzuki dominates What Car? True MPG tests

July 10, 2020

If fuel efficiency is most important to you when buying a car, look no further than the Suzuki small car range.

In the latest What Car? True MPG tests, which uses real-world driving to show what fuel economy you can really expect from a car, three Suzuki models featured in the top 10 best performing cars.

With a True MPG of 55.2mpg, the Suzuki Baleno, a practical and spacious hatchback, finished in 6th position. Another model discontinued in 2019, the Suzuki Celerio, a small and practical city car, secured 2nd place with a True MPG of 57.8mpg. Both models offer excellent value for money in the marketplace, delivering not only excellent fuel efficiency but also a good level of specification at an affordable price.

Scoring an impressive True MPG of 59.6mpg, the Suzuki Ignis Hybrid was the most efficient model What Car? tested. As a mild hybrid, the Ignis benefits from both an electric motor and an extremely frugal 1.2-litre petrol engine. Even with the 4-wheel drive option, the Ignis’ True MPG only drops to 53.3mpg.

Price Point win for Celerio at the What Car? Used Car Awards

October 5, 2019

Suzuki GB PLC is pleased to announce a Price Point win for its Celerio model by What Car? Magazine. The Celerio was awarded Best City Car by the judging panel in the up to £5,000 category.

Used Cars Editor of What Car? Mark Pearson comments: “We’ve always loved the Celerio for its cheeky nature and practical interior, but when you add in its excellent reliability record and the extraordinary value it offers at this age and price point no other rival can come close. It can handle motorways with aplomb, and inside there’s space for four and a great view out, thanks to its tall windows. The fact that the car is recently off sale as a new car only adds further to its appeal on the used market”.

Suzuki voted number 1 in 2018 What Car? Reliability Survey

September 6, 2018

Suzuki is celebrating some very good news from the results of the 2018 What Car? Reliability Survey in which readers report on their ownership experience after the first year and up to four years old. Of the 31 car brands measured, Suzuki is at the top of the league table with a score of 97.7 per cent and even when measured at over four years old Suzuki remained in the top five with a score of 88.4 per cent. The sample size of Suzuki owners for this year’s survey was 193 and What Car? measured 159 different models across the industry.

The good news continued for the popular S-Cross model too as owners reported 100 per cent reliability during their ownership with no faults recorded whatsoever. Editor of What Car? magazine Steve Huntingford comments: “Not a single S-Cross caused its owner any trouble, making this not only one of our favourite budget small SUV’s but also the class’s most reliable car. Many owners told us the thing they like best about their S-Cross is its durability”

The S-Cross is available with either 1.0-litre or 1.4-litre Boosterjet petrol engines and has low rate PCP and HP agreements on offer until the end of September. This is in addition to a £2,500 customer saving for SZ4 models and a £3,000 customer saving for SZ-T and SZ5 also in place until the end of September.

Taking a 1.0-litre SZ4 model as an example on Personal Contract Purchase (PCP), a deposit of just £2,104 is required followed by 48 monthly payments of £199 and a final optional payment of £5,534 to keep the car. The representative APR for the PCP agreement is 5.9 per cent.
