Suzuki ranked second most reliable manufacturer by Honest John

December 30, 2022

The Honest John Satisfaction Index 2022 has ranked Suzuki as the second most reliable manufacturer out of 29 car brands, based on the feedback of more than 6,000 motorists.

Owners were asked to rate their cars in various key areas, with drivers scoring them for reliability, comfort, fuel efficiency, practicality and performance, as well as build quality, ease of use, safety and repair costs. The standout performer for Suzuki in this year’s index was the Swift model, with drivers giving high scores for build quality and reliability, while the Vitara was also praised as a dependable SUV.

“Suzuki has earned one of its strongest ever results in the Honest John Satisfaction Index, with owners giving the Japanese car brand exceptionally high ratings for build quality and reliability,” said Dan Powell, Senior Editor at Honest John. “Suzuki secured an average of 9.75 out of 10 for reliability, which is the second highest score in this year’s Index. Suzuki is clearly committed to producing high quality and dependable cars that its owners can trust.”

Suzuki was also rated top automotive brand in the Honest John UK Customer Satisfaction Index earlier in the summer, which really emphasises how customers feel about Suzuki as a brand.

Suzuki S-Cross now available as full hybrid

September 22, 2022

The Suzuki S-Cross is now available with full hybrid technology that helps lower CO2 emissions and improves fuel consumption even further than the current mild hybrid with automatic transmission.

Full hybrid technology

The system consists of a 140V lithium-ion battery and inverter, Motor Generator Unit (MGU), a 12V lithium-ion battery and a conventional 12V lead-acid battery to power components requiring lower voltage such as lights, instruments, heating and air-conditioning.

Selectable hybrid modes

The new hybrid system has two switchable modes – Eco and Standard – which enables the driver to change between the two modes depending on conditions and increases the frequency of EV driving.

MGU

The MGU acts as a generator and starter motor and assists the petrol engine during vehicle take off. The high-performance lithium-ion battery stores electrical energy recovered from deceleration and braking and incorporates an idle stop function operated via the integrated starter generator. Based on engine speed and throttle position, the engine ECU judges when the driver will accelerate then uses the electric motor to add additional torque.

The hybrid system collects kinetic energy and generates electricity by stopping the engine and disengaging the clutch during deceleration, which increases the EV driving range. As a full hybrid, the S-Cross can run solely on its electric motor for short distances.

Transmission

The S-Cross full hybrid comes equipped with Auto Gear Shift (AGS) that automatically shifts the manual transmission and gear ratios to help provide a good combination of performance and fuel economy. AGS enables the driver to enjoy both the direct driving experience of a manual gearbox and the shifting ease of an automatic transmission. The transmission also has a manual mode with steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles.

One notable feature of the latest hybrid system with AGS is the position of the MGU on the output side of the transmission assembly. As a result, power from the MGU is directly transmitted to the driveshafts to fill the torque gap during shifting and provides a smoother transition from the transmission.

CO2 emissions

Thanks to full hybrid technology, high tensile steel and other weight-saving measures in the body, S-Cross CO2 emissions are low (118g/km) with an impressive combined fuel economy of 53mpg.

ALLGRIP 4-wheel drive

Suzuki’s ALLGRIP 4-wheel drive system is available as an option on the Ultra model and incorporates four selectable drive modes – Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock – for safe, enjoyable driving on diverse surfaces.

Specification highlights

Standard equipment is comprehensive with the entry-level Motion model featuring: dual-zone auto air conditioning, heated front seats, keyless entry and start, 17″ silver alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, rear parking camera and a “7 inch touchscreen display. Moving up to the top-spec Ultra you get a larger 9″ diplay, 17” polished alloy wheels, 360 view camera, panoramic sunroof, leather seats and the availability of ALLGRIP 4WD as an option.

A high level of safety specification comes as standard including, LED headlights and rear combination lights, dual sensor brake support (AEB), lane departure warning and prevention, traffic sign recognition, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitor and eCall.

Suzuki Connect App

Suzuki Connect

Initially available in S-Cross, Suzuki Connect enables owners to use convenient connected services via the smartphone app, including notifications about the vehicle status in retail time, remotely lock the car, view driving information and the location of their parked vehicle. Diagnostic information can be seamlessly shared with the dealership, allowing for faster and more comprehensive aftersales support.
